Today is Easter Sunday...and my Mom's Birthday!!! What a treat. Had to start the day off with a bang. And there's no better way to do it than for it to be at CHURCH!!! It was actually nice being back at Mt.Zion, "where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came" (sorry had a moment). Sitting there I realized that its weird how at one point in your life "small" is just too confining, but when you've grown and matured you realize that its nice in its own way. You see it as being a family type atmosphere. People who I haven't seen in years come up to you with genuine hugs and smiles. I miss that in my life.
I was sitting there when the sermon was about to begin and there he was, the one that got away. I have always thought that this man was gorgeous, sweet, a little sneaky, but so damn charming, with the most beautiful smile I've ever seen on a man. We basically grew up together. He was my "boyfriend" when we were little tadpoles, so Ive always wondered if it really counted or not. After all, we were young...now we're adults and different people. Its always been "something" about him that made me feel all giddy. We've always been able to be friends though. I'm the type of person that might see someone from her past and think "what the hell was I thinking". With him I thought the same thing, but for totally different reasons.
When church was dismissed, after round-10 of hugs and hellos, I made my way over to him to speak. I got up to him a poked him in the side. He turned around and "damn" if it wasnt the same smile I remembered. *slowly exhale*. We hugged and he kissed me on my cheek. Then we talked for a short sec. I asked him what he's been up to after a little chit-chatting and he said he was engaged and he'd just had a son 2 wks ago. "Ohhh....congratulations!!!" :-S I hope I didn't sound as fake as I imagined I did. I haven't seen him in like 4 years so I knew he'd be married or something like that by now. Hearing it was just...different. I don't know if I felt weird cause of confirmation from him that he'd be taken forever (though I doubt it) OR if it was confirmation that yet another one of my peers is onto the marriage/baby stage in their lives and I'm still single without a definite prospect (THAT SUCKS!!!). We concluded our little intro talk and he said he'd drop by my grandmother's house to see me later.
I'd made my mom a bouquet of flowers...(THAT SHE LOVED!!!)...and gotten her a card which my brothers and I signed. I had them form this little "parade line" and we all took her her bouquet. She started to tear up because she was surprised. Mission Accomplished!!!
Later in the day my cousin had a crawfish boil across the street that we went to. OMG!!! I know i haven't had crawfish in a long time, but those were absolutely delicious. I finally got to meet my beautiful little cousin Maci. Damn shame she's almost 2 now. We were standing outside when a truck pulled up. I didn't know who it was so I was looking until "the most beautifullest" smile stepped out and made me giddy again. I was surprised that he actually stopped to visit. He came over and hugged everyone and we stepped to the side and talked for a few minutes. I got his number so we could keep in touch and he left.
Kendall and Sabrina (other cousins) came to my grandmothers house and the boil and talk of Taboo came up. We always play at their house. So off to the game we went. We had to throw down cause the men were talking a lot of junk. When everyone finally arrived we did our thing (men against women/and uncle)...AND LOST!!! It had gotten a little emotional cause the guys were cheating.
I was not leaving that house without winning something so I asked my cousin if we could play Tiger Woods golf on PS2 (yes I have a playstation). LOL. Little did he know was that I have it at my house and had practiced till i got pretty good. 3 of us played the game and I won. YAY!!! I'm a winner. Gotta get it in where I fit it in.
I retired for the evening with a very interesting text conversation with my "little secret", which couldn't have been a better way to turn in for the night. Hee hee hee. Anyway, I think I've pretty much covered everything. I think I'll bring it to a close. Till next time....

MEMORY LANE
Today not much went on. It rained for half of the day. I went to see my "Grandma" (dad's mom), who lives in the city of New Orleans. I told my mom to call her to see if she would be home for the remainder of the evening. She said that she would. On my way over there it was drizzling and my windshield wipers were on low. I heard a loud pop and they stopped moving. Just my luck!!! Good thing it's not raining hard.
I got there and she was so surprised that I snuck into town. Then she said my aunt had called her to go to bingo...her favorite recreational activity. I remember my cousin and I used to go with her and drive her crazy because we were so nervous.
We talked for a while and pulled some pictures she had out of the closet. OHHHHHH...memories. There were pictures of all my cousins, friends, and other folks who I haven't seen in years...AND ME!!! I'd forgotten how many good times I had with everybody. We used to all get together at the drop of a dime and cook, eat, and party. Now everyone has kinda grown-up and moved out and things aren't nearly the same. I'm gonna get those next time I go home to show to other family members what we need to be doing again.

BACK HOME
Today I went back home to New Orleans to visit for Easter and my mom's birthday, which happen to be the same day. The ride wasn't bad at all, but that's because I'm more than used to it by now. I was making great time until I got to Slidell (right outside of New Orleans...literally across a long bridge) and came to a complete stop. There's nothing worse than going on a long trip and getting so close that you can spit on your destination, but cant get there. Ugh!!!
I told my brother's girlfriend, Stacia, that I would go to a spot that has poetry night with her and her friend. The traffic put a little delay on my ride. But I put on some gospel grooves to keep me focused and in a positive frame of mind. So the part of the ride that would've normally taken 15 minutes took me an hour and 30 minutes. WHOO!!!! Yeah I had to REALLY try to sing and breathe easy...cause I wanted to scream. But I didnt let that mess up my night.
When I finally made it to my grandmother's house (Maw Maw= mom's mom), which was lively, but surprisingly not as much as usual. My grandparents were at church, my big little brother, Ryan, wasn't there, my two youngest brothers were playing with a cousin who was spending the night, my mom was chit-chatty as usual, and another cousin was there.
Oh yeah...***SIDE NOTE***=Ama is the town that my grandmother lives in, where I spent most of my childhood summers and holidays. Its right outside of New Orleans and is so small that everyone is related. Its the kind of thing where if you like someone it might be your grandfather's brother's 2nd wife's nephew....and it will be traced out. The kind of place where the first question your family asks about someone is "who are they're people". Having a car is a necessity, yellow buses are the mode of transportation for every child in school, walking to a "grocery" store is not an option, and you can drive in and out of the city in 10 min and completely miss it. Home sweet home!!!
Back to the evening...I chilled, talked, ate, and got ready to go to poetry nite. I went to Stacia's house to meet her and her friend. My brother called me to tell me that he and his friends were gonna come out there too. Cool. We walked up to the place and they were standing outside. First person I saw was my bro...and he gives me a big bear hug. (*smile*I love him). I give all his friends hugs, deyz all grown menz now. One in particular (my flow)...yessir. Moving along....lol
Some of poets were pretty good. One chick in particular definitely needed some therapy, counseling, a few hugs, prayer, anything that would help her anger management issues. The title of her poem was "I hate my boyfriend's baby's momma". WTH!!! And boy...did she hate the woman. She talked about pushing her off a building, killing her, and all other kinds of violent stuff. That one was scary...some of the others were good and positive though. It turned out to be a nice nite.

JUST ANOTHER DAY
Nothing much has been going on the past couple of days. I finally put my vacation days in for this weekend. I took off Good Friday and the following Monday. That should give me a long weekend to enjoy myself at home. Dont know if I told you I'm from New Orleans. Been in Atlanta (area) for 7 years and I still dont call it home. That is a shame. I guess home really is where my heart is and my heart is with my family. I miss the them all the time. My mother's birthday is also on Easter Sunday. So it should be a very interesting weekend. I'll let ya know how it turns out.

SURPRISE BABY SHOWER
On Saturday I attended my first surprise African Baby Shower. Let me say this...it gave a whole new meaning to "CP-Time". The shower was for a friend. Her boyfriend/fiance Yow (pronounced like WOW...pregnant friends boyfriend) and some of his friends gave the shower. So my friends and I really had no knowledge of anything that was going on. He told us it should start about 8:00pm.
I went to Celeste's house so that we could ride together. We also had to get gifts on the way...yeah yeah I knowa little last minute....but we left early enough to take care of it. Anyway, we went to Target because she was registered there. We also wanted to get her something that she was really going to use and enjoy vs. surprising her and having a gift sit in the corner. CeCe got her a baby tub and various other items (including the cutest little blue tennis shoes). I went for simple and 1 gift, so I got an infant-to-toddler rocker. Good Job!!! Off to the shower. We thought we would have been right on time because CeCe spoke to Yow on the way to the shower.
We got to the apartment where the shower was being held and Danielle (another friend) was sitting by herself looking upset. Turns out she was running around and had forgotten her gift on the counter at her house. We told her to let it go and to try to have a good time. We ended up talking to each other for the remainder of the evening because we were the only Americans. Everyone else was African and was speaking their 1st language when they spoke to each other. We couldnt really be too social because we didnt understand.
After a while the house was packed with people talking, but...uhm...still no guest couple. People kept calling Yow on the phone because it was still a surprise for our friend. They didnt show up until about 10:30pm. That is certainly late to say it was a baby shower. We were starving (couldn't eat until they arrived) and really ready to go. We hung out for a while, finally got to eat, watched everyone dance to Guyanan music. It was a lot of fun to watch and everyone was really nice. The food was also pretty good. There was fruit, chicken kabobs, beef kabobs, some kind of rice, fish, salad, and something called ke-ke (like sour dough). They didnt even open the gifts....which was very interesting and a little upsetting. I like to see the expression and let the person know what I bought them. We left at about 12:30am and the party was still rolling. It was quite an experience!!!

THE HACKER
TGIF...I'm at work feeling like my head is going to explode. When I'm not feeling well I stay to myself, don't say too much, and pretty much stay in my hole in the office. The only time people see me is when they come back to say something to me. If I don't expect to answer the phone a lot, I sometimes put on some headphones and listen to any music that enhances or relates to my mood. That also helps to block the office chatter and noises out.
Today its particularly difficult to block things out, cause even over my music I hear the coughing and hacking of the nastiest person in the office. This woman must have never in her life been taught ANYTHING vaguely related to hygiene. Same woman...has the flu. She was in the office coughing, hacking, w/o covering her mouth. I know she caught me on a couple of occassions shooting her a dirty look...just passing by.My coworkers call me a germaphobe cause I'm just aware of nastiness and try to avoid it AND make it known. I'm realistically not that bad, but she is freaking gross!!! I would think some things should automatically be done...washing your hands before you eat, after you use the bathroom, brushing your teeth, bathing...those sort of things!!! Let me elaborate...never washes her hands EVER. There have been several times when I've been at the little break area getting a drink or rinsing my cup out. I can turn on the water, and she'll go into the restroom. By the time my coffee cup fills with water, I hear the toilet flush and she comes out. Now I've never timed how long it takes to fill a coffee cup, but I know its not big and she was done. I don't even think that's enough time to wipe. Anyway, enough dirty details about that. Moving along...
We had a lunch for a coworker who's last day is today. Whenever "the hacker" is at the front of the line, I assume that things are contaminated...its a done deal for me. I'm not hungry. I have to be careful sometimes cause she always wants to try to help set up or pick up afterwards, while touching everything. So I try to go way before her...and a couple others (I dont discriminate). Anyway, she always "cooks" something to bring. Now we know good and damn well ain't nobody about to eat that. At least 5 or 6 people cuss when they realize they got something she cooked. So its not just me. Storebought items are the safest bet.
I go back to the kitchen to get some water. She is back there cleaning things out. Keep in mind...she has the flu. Follow me closely: She picks something up, gets some cream on her thumb, puts that down, licks her thumb, and picks up another dish w/ her thumb (same thumb) hanging IN the dish. Then she asks if anyone wants the rest of it before she throws it away. HELL NAH NOBODY WANTS IT!!!!! But I was nice and simply said. "no you need to just go ahead and throw it away". See its all in how you say it...not what you say. ;)
I'm already not feeling well and she's trying to give me her dose of bad hygiene. No thanks!!! If me having a super-size can of lysol on my desk, sanitizer at hand, and asking who cooked, touched, or brought what makes me a germaphobe...I'll proudly carry the name.

Expensive Roses
I've been feeling a little under the weather for a couple of days. Since I'm not accustomed to getting sick I get on the meds as soon as I feel funny. I have a fickle (one here and there) cough that is irritating, so I'm also popping cough drops like I'm addicted to them. Yesterday, I was at the grocery store getting some juice and Theraflu. While standing in line I saw two guys with flowers, one of them also had balloons. I thought "aww that is so sweet. Wish i had a man to bring me flowers". But you never see two guys who have special occassions at the same time. I wonder which one is a copycat. Still a sweet gesture. Gotta learn from and start somewhere.
The people in the self-checkout line are slow and obviously dont know how to work the machines. So I'm still standing in the same spot when they happen to stand in line behind me. I overhear them talking. This is a simplified version of the conversation as follows:
1st guy: Why do people always smell roses? These don't smell like anything.
2nd guy:*singing* Roses really smell like boooo boo boo
Random chick: I think they don't smell cause they're old
1st guy: Hey man don't forget to take the price tag off of your flowers
2nd guy: Man, I dont care she needs to know I paid a lot for these flowers
Well...its clear who was following the other's lead. Then I start to wonder what ever happened to it being all about the thought. Why does it matter how much he paid for the flowers? Its a nice gesture that expresses how you feel. Why not just leave it at that? Maybe I'm a simple girl. But it doesnt matter if he spend $2 or $200 on a dozen roses. If he spent the $2 I'd be impressed cause he found a deal on them. If he spent the $200, well that's on him. Either way, I'd rather not know. It wouldn't matter cause I would be grateful that he thought enough about me while he was out to bring me some.
Its just interesting to see how so many people are getting stuck on price tags and materialism that they miss the importance of feelings and emotions. That sounds like the "woman" in me though, since we are supposedly more emotional than men. I dont care...for me its always about the time and/or effort that you put into whatever. Even if things didnt go as planned. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying I wouldnt look at the price tag if it was on the flowers...cause I probably would. Couldn't even tell you why. But the afterthought would still be the same..."he bought me flowers...awwwww". So just take the tag off!!!!

He Got Game?!?!?!
Okay now that I've gotten my pre-entry out of the way, its down to business. In order to REALLY be considered an official blogger, I have to put down a story. I figure there's no better situation than from this past weekend to begin with. And yes...some of it does involve men (couple of them actually). Go figure!!!
1st off I would love to know what ever happened to men being single AND unattached (I've learned that there is a difference) and then trying to get the girl. Let that marinate for a while and I'll get to that point later. But to begin...On Saturday my girl Celeste (you'll probably hear a lot about her since she's my road dog) invited me to a get-together that her coworker was having. We went had a good ol time eating, playing cards, and a lil trash talking. We all decided to go out that night.
We went to a little Spot called 20 Grand. We've never been, but heard that it is cool to go to over on that side of town. I think only Atlanta clubs are so strict with dress code that they completely turn people away w/o the right shoes. You can come in there w/ a sweat suit, but you have to wear dress shoes with it. One female wears tennis shoes, despite the fact that she was told not too (I'ma need you to listen next time). We told her to go ahead of the bunch so that we didnt pay our money if she couldnt get in. She stands in the middle of the line (keep in mind there are like 9 of us) and freezes up. One door person saw her shoes and told her to go on in...she went like 4 steps and stood there. (Again...LISTEN) We're getting a little impatient with her cause she's holding all of us up. Then another person told her she can't go in, so she backs out. The woman who was taking the money said since she was the only one...she would let us in and would handle it (clearly there are communication problems w/ the staff here too). Again, the chick is just standing there, not moving and said she was waiting for her boyfriend. See....folks like that dont need to go anywhere. She needed to be left outside. We finally got her to pay and go in. (damn, I'm already tired).
Okay, after slight misunderstandings flying all over the place and nearly being turned around we're already ready for a drink. 7 of us headed to the bar. 1 of the guys with us (we'll just call him Florida )bought Celeste and I a couple. While he's paying and chatting it up with one of his friends I spotted a cutie walking by. We make eye contact, but he kept it moving. Not a problem...might catcha later. We walk off and I see the cutie again. He was just standing on the side eyeing me as we walked by. This time we were playing follow the leader and I didnt want to break the chain, so I kept it moving.
After finishing the last sips we were ready to hit the floor. Florida grabbed me and told his friend "I think I love her dog". HAHAHA...cute. Earlier he was wearing just some chill clothes. For the club he'd put on something that looked like it came straight out of a "Bentley" catalog (P. Diddy's manservant). I made a comment about the digs and his response was "I put it on for you". Wrong answer!!! He starts to really get into his dance moves. I told him to just dance right. He said "just hold on and enjoy the ride". Whah?!?! I do love a fun ride, but this is not 6 flags and you are no rollar coaster. Okay I'm ready to go now. Bye-bye.
Celeste and I decide to ditch the crew and make rounds. She spotted "mr. cutie" again...and I started to inch in that direction, until I saw him sit down with a bunch of old women. Hmm...bad timing. Okay more rounds. We were standing on the side scoping the scene and I turned around to see him coming to talk to me. NICE!!! Hahaha...ya girl is good. He and I talked for a while (good conversation, check) about his job (check), danced for a minute (nice moves, check), he asked me when I'd be ready to settle down (hmm...inquisitive, check), bought me a drink (nice, check), son (no check...but not necessarily a minus given society's circumstances). Okay so far, so good. He's just going off about how he can't believe I'm single, and "has anyone ever told you that you're soft" (interesting line), blah blah, but (compliments, check). These are typically some of the things I look for in a new prospect. He's not that yet. And I'm not naive cause time always tells. I asked about his situation and he says that he lives with someone(WHOA!!! delete, delete, delete). WTH!!! Oops...time is up!!!
I'm a little tipsy, so I keep the conversation rolling...even though its a done deal. (Its not gonna happen brah). I'm also speaking my mind (due to the drink)...so I was just saying whatever I thought of the situation. This dude says that he not only lives with someone, but its his girl of 7 yrs with their 5 yr old son (as he's pulling out the picture). He isnt ready to marry her, but doesnt want her seeing anyone else. He doesnt go out to meet people to mess around with, but if he does "home doesnt know about anything that goes on over here...I keep home separate". What kind of mess does he thinks is gonna happen? I'm no home-wrecker..and what would I get out of the deal? I do give buddy props for being upfront and honest. But to say he doesnt go out to "look" for people to mess around with, it all sure flowed out of his mouth so easily.
I know i sound a little salty about the whole thing... I'm not. I've always said that honesty is the best policy. So I respect that part. Yet the situation still brings a few questions to mind. I'm sure that she doesn't know he's "not meeting people to hook up with". How many guys who have their ladies chilling at home do that? They don't want to commit, yet still want you to be theirs. If he tried to holla at me...I'm sure its worked with other women. Is it some kind of game that they play to see if they still have "it"? I dont know. People ask where all the good ones have gone, yet its too easy for them to be bad. So why wouldn't they? Its crazy.
Okay I've rambled on enough for today. I really didnt think my entry would be this long. Anyway, till next time...
1st Blog
And I'm off...
I've been reading a couple of blogs here and there and find them to be extremely entertaining. So I figured what the "hay" I want to entertain too. I have a lot to say...sometimes, and its the next best thing to having a diary. Plus, I can vent and put whatever business I want in the streets.
I'm a star and this is my blog spot. HAHA...I'm da boss!!!! Okay now that thats out...I can move along. This is my way of sharing "Shugababie's Business". (You'd think I'm vain or something the way that I'm talking. But those who know me...know I'm cool people. And its all in fun...for now) :)
Enjoy....!!!!!
